Notes from Israel: 60 Days Since that Black Shabbat

Today marks 60 days since that black Shabbat. Sixty days of war, 60 days of immense pain and worry—concern for the hostages and our soldiers fighting in Gaza.

In the deepest darkness, Israel's greatest strength has emerged, unveiling our secret power: unity. The war compelled us to set aside our differences, fostering a spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance. We've witnessed an extraordinary volunteering spirit among citizens from all corners of Israel, extending help to those who lost their homes and families. People from Herzliya, Tel Aviv, and more came to help farmers in the Gaza periphery with their agriculture. Solidarity marches for the hostages took place all over the country.

We've also seen women emerge as warriors, filling crucial roles and showing exceptional leadership. From the warriors in the tanks and army bases facing Hamas to those reporting crucial warnings to army intelligence, and even the women hostages who gained their freedom, sharing tales of maintaining sanity in horrifying conditions. Israel now recognizes what we've always known—we need more women leaders!

On a personal note, both our families are thankfully unharmed. Yet, we are keenly aware of others—family members, neighbors, and friends—whose lives were spared only by great luck. While striving to maintain some kind of normal routine, the pain is palpable, and our hearts carry a profound ache. We are still worried about the hostages in Gaza, the soldiers on the front lines, and the uncertain aftermath of the war.

Despite the cruel massacre on October 7, Israel finds itself still defending its right to self-preservation on the global stage. Unbelievably, we need to make enormous efforts to convince the world that we were cruelly attacked and that we have the right to defend ourselves. Antisemitism is rearing its ugly head worldwide. Amidst this wave of hate, we find solace in the heartwarming support from Jews across the globe. Thank you for standing with us, for your warm words, and for supporting Israeli shops. Your support provides us with strength and comfort during these trying times. Keep safe and walk around with a proud Jewish head!

Now when Hanukkah is around the corner, remember - we are the light, they are darkness.

Am Israel Chai!
